June 8th, 2008 | by kilps |One can argue for hours about the benefits and detriments of hosting the 2010 World Cup – but anyone has to conceed that having the event on our doorstep is going to be fun. Somehow this video brough that home to me.

Hi Kilps
Well if people can figure out all the name changes of places on maps perhaps but its not only place names that have changed. If you wish to travel by train do you know what you have to look for in the phone book?
Answer to above: Shosholoza-Meyl! Now how on earth will foreigners find that if a local can’t? Look for a railway line and follow it hoping it is going in the right direction to a station somewhere nearby and not a dead end.

Hi Gail – I get your point (and also wish intercity rail was better) – but I do think that 2010 is forcing a lot of needed developments (improved inner city buses in Cape Town and Joburg, airports upgrades, etc). Not perfect, I’m the first to agree – but doesn’t mean it wont be fun!
Take a look at the South African section of SkyScraperCity (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=378) – for all the problems it’s amazing what’s going on, makes me think that overall things are going in the right direction
