A selection of quotes from Julius Malema’s visit to UCT

April 15th, 2009 | by kilps |

This afternoon ANC Youth Leauge leader Julius Malema graced the sutdents of UCT with his presence. The lecture theatre was packed – more students came to see him than did for Helen Zille – but the difference was the majority were there for the show.

He gave a typical rally speech – lots of contravesial, short sentences – while the DA capitalised on the oppertunity to distribute pamphlets.

The following quotes I managed to write down as he motored through what he had to say – so sorry for any mistakes – but they do capture the gist of it all.

“We will not be stopped by any security”

“this campus is a campus of the ANC”

“they have been refusing change in South Africa”

“they have been refusing african leadership”

[note without ever saying who 'they' was]

“african leadership is being attacked”

“they will never demoralise the ANC”

“people in the Western Cape engage with the coloniser”

“never be afraid of an enemy”

“we are going to have the best president ever”

“we are going to have a president who is open to debate”

“we will never have a president that will divide the ANC and the country”

“under Zuma we are going to ensure young people obtain first degree free of charge”

“we are going to sponsor as many african children to come here [uct]”

“we must transform the management of this university”

“must bring as many african lecturers as possible”

“the SRC occupy those positions temporarily”

“people in power in Cape Town will continue to to divide people along racist lines” (to which there was booing)

“if you are not going to tolerate the truth, then the door is open” to those who booed

“Helen Zille has employed people to disrupt this meeting”

“we will never allow you to disrupt a meeting of a glorious movement”

“we are a militant and radical voice” – on the youth league

“we respect all of them, but we fear nobody”

“you are the ANC, not Jacob Zuma” – on ANC members

“even if you are not South African, but come from Africa – you must know you are here because of the ANC”

“we are going to reverse any project that is racially based”

“madam” – refering to Helen Zille

“Zuma is unstoppable”

“Zuma is a tsunami” (to which someone behind me commented – “yes – a disaster”

“the ANC liberated you to sit in one meeting with a black person”

“guarantee you that the ANC is taking over”

“a cultural group called the IFP”

“we are going to get over 70% in KwaZulu-Natal”

“this new mickey mouse political party” – on COPE

“we are in charge of every corner of South Africa”

“suffering from establishing itself” – on COPE

“COPE – meaning confusion of the people” – after giving a history lesson on the ‘real’ congress of the people

“the ANC will rule this country until the son of somebody comes back”

What an idiot… I can’t believe that he’s even allowed outside of the mental hospital from which he must have escaped, or did Zuma get his charges dropped by threatening the people in charge.

after addressing th students at beattie, malema then went to the jameson hall, wher it was also packed. an interesting incident occured.

the incident occured when julius malema remarked that: “helen zille had deployed people to come and disrupt the meeting”, to which a DA supporter stood up gave maleme not one, but two fingers- middle fingers that is. to top it all of, he was screaming “f**k you”!

now this incident did not disturb me because it involves excessive use of vulgar language, no, i am disturbed because of the hypocricy that was involved in the incident.

now, if you believe that malema is a jerk, clown or whatever you may think, why then would you be willing to act like a jerk in order to get your point across?

this leaves one with the following question: if malema is a rude politician, does one then have the right to be rude with malema in telling him: “you are rude”? isn’t that hypocritical?

Wow Siya thanks for letting me know – I didn’t go on to the second part, should have – what happened there besides what you describe?

I certainly agree with you re the inappropriateness of what that person did – but can sympathise from the point of view that if Malema gives this impression of being completely unreasonable and the only way to respond is to sink to his level. Don’t agree with it but I’m guessing someone got a bit too emotional…

malema needs to go back to grade 10 to rule this country because himself is a disgrace to south Africa i hate to say that he is a monkey though but still he is to childish and revengeful for no reason . grow up malema .

    I don’t sympathise anything.

If he actually said Hellen Zille hired people, and if I was there, I would disrupt the gathering as much as I could mocking Malema to no end. I would, and I know my friends would as well.

The guy needs to STFU and think before he says such things, esp with the whole CapeTown is racist thing

What an idiot. Practically everything he said is stupid and anybody that votes for the ANC should maybe go back to school and finish there grade 2!

borank just to clarify the quote about him saying that Zille hired people – a newspaper quoted him as saying deployed instead of employed – so it is possible that I misheard him.

Errrr – ‘we are going to reverse any project that is racially based’ – does that mean they going to stop BEE?? Thats racially based!! Malema is a complete idiot and anyone that doesnt see that is mentally retarded just like ‘wiseman manana’ who made a comment above!

how can you say that he is speaking the truth? on what grounds is that conviction based?? Open your eyes, and you will see the truth…Julius Malema is an absolute idiot!he’s a populist, and if u dont know what that is, look it up. Those against him arent against justice or truth…and aren’t rude or racist…its a realistic point of view. Look at all the mistakes malema has made, in his speeches and also actions. his knowledge of souh african apartheid is so flawed and biased, that he honestly wouldnt be able to pass grade 11 history. he is quick to start slanderous rumours about greatly respected political leaders, and yet hasnt done anything REMOTELY beneficial for this country. Yes, our country is flawed, yes there is still racism and corruption, but for goodness sake, dont believe everything that is ‘vomited’ at you.

south africa’s polititcal integrity is deteriorating because of the very ignorance that some of these posts reflect

Malema… What an idiot! And what kind of delinquent degenerate is inspired by the crap he talks? As shallow as the pool of dignified and competent politicians is, Mugabe & Malema still manage to stand out as ridiculous.

    My Letter to Julius Malema.

All I can say is that as much as your words might upset most of the white citizens of South Africa and probably put a lot of black South Africans to shame, you do make for a good laugh most of the time – its about time we bring humor back into politics, btw I love your Nando’s ads.

On the note of your latest verbal diaree as listed in the link at the bottom, all I can say is; Julius Malema you are in the wrong party, you should join the PAC or find another extremist party, because its so obvious that you are an aggravated, racist militant rebel who is more than often on the war path trying to instigate hate and divide amongst the citizens of South Africa, as well as your own party…
I will not mention your Nedbank scandal – do you know how much they have done for this country, and how many black staff they employ, but you want to see them punished and liquidated, try and figure out the consequences.

Unfortunately when it comes to our youth its no longer funny – its sad to see how the mothers and fathers, innovators and leaders of tomorrow, our black youth is supporting and following in your footsteps of hate speech and hostility towards peace and prosperity

You have not create or initiated nor contributed anything in your total time of rule that is significant in the prevention of crime, restoration of education, growth and progress of this country.

On the note of land reform:
I need to mention something to you and the majority of people who are probably not aware of this…
When the Europeans came to South Africa in the 1600’s, more than 300 years ago and started exploring the country, moving further up north they discovered different tribes living here, but vast amounts of land was totally unoccupied.
The tribes that lived here did not have basic algebra or a written language and they also did not have maps of the African continent (or SA), neither would they have had accurate legitimate deeds to the land they claimed they occupied and the actual km areas.
Because they had no written language it means they also did not document their history or family trees.
So explain to me how do you prove that this land was the Black person’s land when you don’t have proof or historical record of anything? – the Khoi San bushmen where here before the Blacks – if anyone needs to claim land its them.
The Europeans was the first to create/develop a written language for the Zulu in 1850, and all other language later – enormous gift if you ask me.
Probably 90% of South Africa and Africa’s education, technology and infrastructure etc. is European, unfortunately this has now been somewhat vandalized and abused.

I’ll make a deal with you, all Europeans will leave this country, with only 1 condition, we take all European technology and infrastructure with us, I’m sure you can figure out what you’ll be left with…or phone Mugabe.

Please stop threatening the white people and grasp the fact that the whites of today were born and bred here and we all had a Black mom, let’s make this country better together – and please watch the movie Gandhi or go visit Mr. Mandela, and see how you measure up.
